Services

Daytime Doulas

Daytime postpartum doulas provide a range of services depending on a family’s individual needs on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. In a typical 4-hour session, your doula can:

  • Answer non-medical questions or concerns with evidence-based information on your birth, recovery, and adjustment, and on newborn care, feeding, and development
  • Support your goals related to breast and bottle feeding
  • Assess a feeding and make any adjustments to ensure maximum comfort and success for you and your baby
  • Listen and offer emotional support
  • Take care of practical needs, such as preparing a meal while you shower or nap, preparing meals for the family, newborn laundry and folding, and light household organization (such as running and emptying a dishwasher)
  • Demonstrate how to use baby accessories, carriers, and breast pumps
  • Run an urgent errand or stay home with the newborn so you may do so

Overnight Doulas

Overnight postpartum doulas provide a range of services, most importantly the peace of mind a newly postpartum parent/family needs in order to sleep. In a typical session, your doula can:
  • Bring baby to you for feeding when it is time (and if you are breastfeeding)
  • Help get baby properly latched to the breast
  • Ensure you have water or a snack close by if you need it
  • Bottle feed, if you are not breastfeeding
  • Burp and change baby’s diaper
  • Settle baby back to sleep
  • Help implement healthy sleep habits
  • Take care of any baby-related chores once baby is asleep

Overnight doulas may rest when chores are complete and baby is fed, soothed, and asleep. We encourage you to discuss this with your doula and reach a mutually agreed understanding of what constitutes “rest” for them, so you and your doula have the same expectation.

Consultations

Our team also comprises doulas that can offer additional support on, for example, how to safely use carriers and car seats.

Our Certified Babywearing Educator can demonstrate how to comfortably and safely wear your baby in a carrier or in a wrap, all in the comfort of your home. Babywearing is an old and cherished tradition in many cultures around the world. It is not only convenient – giving your arms a break and the mobility to get things done at home, get out of the house more easily (and confidently), or just enjoy a cup of tea – but also beneficial for babies. The close contact helps soothe and stabilize their heartbeat, temperature, and breathing. It is especially great for:

  • Parents of multiples
  • Babies who need to be held more often
  • Bonding with your baby/toddler
  • Babies with reflux who needs to be held upright after feeding
  • Being able to take your baby out and be hands-free

We are currently not offering this specialty service. However, our doulas are familiar with the range of commercially available baby carriers and happy to demonstrate their use during a session. They are also able to offer resources for additional guidance and support.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ‘3 out of 4 car seats are not used correctly’.

We offer IN-HOME car seat education and safety inspections at YOUR CONVENIENCE, performed by our Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. The visit consists of:

  • A thorough inspection of any car seat bases that are currently installed
  • An inspection of your baby’s car seat
  • Instruction on how to use the seat belt and the LATCH system if applicable
  • Instruction on how to safely and properly strap baby into their car seat

Visits are $300 (up to 2 car seats). Appointments are 1.5-2 hours long. We offer car seat safety inspections in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland.
