Services

Daytime Doulas

Daytime postpartum doulas provide a range of services depending on a family’s individual needs on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. In a typical 4-hour session, your doula can:

  • Answer non-medical questions or concerns with evidence-based information on your birth, recovery, and adjustment, and on newborn care, feeding, and development
  • Support your goals related to breast and bottle feeding
  • Assess a feeding and make any adjustments to ensure maximum comfort and success for you and your baby
  • Listen and offer emotional support
  • Take care of practical needs, such as preparing a meal while you shower or nap, preparing meals for the family, newborn laundry and folding, and light household organization (such as running and emptying a dishwasher)
  • Demonstrate how to use baby accessories, carriers, and breast pumps
  • Run an urgent errand or stay home with the newborn so you may do so

Overnight Doulas

Overnight postpartum doulas provide a range of services, most importantly the peace of mind a newly postpartum parent/family needs in order to sleep. In a typical session, your doula can:
  • Bring baby to you for feeding when it is time (and if you are breastfeeding)
  • Help get baby properly latched to the breast
  • Ensure you have water or a snack close by if you need it
  • Bottle feed, if you are not breastfeeding
  • Burp and change baby’s diaper
  • Settle baby back to sleep
  • Help implement healthy sleep habits
  • Take care of any baby-related chores once baby is asleep

Overnight doulas may rest when chores are complete and baby is fed, soothed, and asleep. We encourage you to discuss this with your doula and reach a mutually agreed understanding of what constitutes “rest” for them, so you and your doula have the same expectation.
