Ayesha Chatterjee, Metro DC Postpartum Doula and Co-Owner Metropolitan Doulas

Ayesha, Certified Postpartum Doula and Lactation Counselor

I am a DONA-certified postpartum doula and a lactation counselor with over a decade of experience. As your doula, I support your goals, day-to-day and long term, with guidance and resources to help you take care of your newborn with confidence -- making sure you are rested and nourished along the way.

My lived experience -- as a South Asian, an immigrant, and a parent with a history of postpartum complications -- shape my respect for every parent's unique history, traditions, and choices, as well as the compassionate and collaborative care I strive to provide. With me, I hope you always feel heard and nurtured, with intention and without judgment, because this is what I believe every new parent deserves.

My journey into the doula world started unexpectedly in 2009, when I was living in Boston and my niece was born at Sibley hospital. I was lucky enough to welcome her earthside and be their unofficial doula for many weeks after. It was a precious and intense time, without extended family to lean on when the days were long and the nights even longer. I made the decision to certify on the train ride home. I now live in Bethesda with my family, so if you are ever in the Glen Echo area and see someone dragging an over-sized English Mastiff, please say hello!

AYESHA'S TOP POSTPARTUM TIP: Try and hold on to your sense of humour. Postpartum, and life with a little baby, can be full of ups and also some downs. If you can, find your funny bone!
