Ayesha, Certified Postpartum Doula and Lactation Counselor
I am a DONA-certified postpartum doula and a lactation counselor with over a decade of experience. As your doula, I will support your daily and longer term goals, offering the encouragement and guidance you seek to take care of your baby with confidence. Along the way, I will make sure you feel rested, nourished, and supported in other practical ways, so you can focus on your recovery, on bonding and getting to know your baby, and on your family's adjustment to life with a newborn.
My lived experience -- as a South Asian, an immigrant, and a parent with a history of postpartum complications -- shape my respect for every parent's unique history, traditions, and choices. With me, I hope you will always feel heard and nurtured, with intention and respect, and without judgment. This is what I believe every postpartum parent and their family deserves.
My journey into the doula world started unexpectedly in 2009, when I was living in Boston and my niece was born at Sibley hospital. I was lucky enough to welcome her earthside and be their unofficial doula for many weeks after. It was a precious but intense time, without extended family to lean on when the days were long and the nights even longer. I made the decision to certify on the train ride home. I now live in Bethesda with my family and love every moment of watching my daughter grow up and alongside her cousins. If you are ever in the Glen Echo area and see someone dragging an over-sized English Mastiff, please say hello!
